CURRICULUM

CUSTOMIZED LEARNING

Our teachers begin by uncovering the individual learning profile of each student, then match that knowledge with instruction. This allows the teachers to accommodate students of all levels on the educational spectrum of learning and offer individualized, advanced instruction based on each student’s needs. Our students are exposed to world knowledge in all subjects such as literature, math, social studies and science. Differentiation occurs in every subject and level of learning, which allows every child to move ahead in areas of mastery, while also allowing for extra work and progress in areas that need more development.

DISCOVER-BASED LEARNING

ASHA teachers use experiences, discussions, and other activities to help the children discover concepts. Our goal is to teach students how to think, not what to think. We engage them in the process of thinking, allowing students to find concepts for themselves. We believe that this is key to becoming independent thinkers, rather than filling students with pre-digested information and concepts to memorize for standardized tests.

INDIVIDUALized transitional learning plan

ASHA is a school designed to combine education with behavior therapy allowing for an easy transition into a more typical setting. Our goal is to help assist the children in understanding new skills, concepts, routines and experiences to better help them transition in confidence and the best educational setting for them to have enhanced social experiences.

 Our partnership with the community strengthens ASHA’s electives by bringing real world experiences, specialized instruction, and meaningful engagement into our students’ education. Through collaborations with organizations such as the Bernie R Lefevbre Aquatic Center, JWC Consulting, and Art from the Heart Tattoos and Gallery, our students gain access to swim, science, and art opportunities that enrich learning beyond the traditional classroom. These partnerships help students build confidence, develop practical and social skills, and explore new interests in supportive community settings. By working together with local partners, ASHA creates a more well rounded educational experience that supports the whole child and prepares students for greater connection with the world around them.
